From Curiosity to Craftsmanship

In 1998, founding Director Rickie was repairing cars in his spare time when he received a call about an urgent brake repair on a van. While working on the vehicle, he noticed how heavily loaded it was and asked what was inside. The answer was simple: granite worktops due to be installed the following day.

Curious about the process, Rickie asked if he could come along and help with the installation, free of charge, simply to learn more about the industry. That experience sparked an interest that would soon become something much bigger.

Wanting to understand the material at its source, Rickie travelled to Brazil where a friend from college was working in a granite quarry. After touring several sites and seeing the beauty of natural stone firsthand, he developed a genuine passion for the industry and the craftsmanship behind it.

The name Margrasil was inspired by those early travels. Combining the words marble, granite and the Portuguese spelling of Brazil, it reflects both the materials we work with and the origins of the journey that started it all.

In March 2000, Margrasil was officially established.

From humble beginnings to industry-leading craftsmanship.

Our first workshop was based in the small Sussex village of Faygate, operating from two wooden barns with a cottage serving as our office. There was no showroom, no large facility and no shortcuts — just a commitment to quality workmanship and exceptional customer service.

As the business grew, so did our ambition. In 2006, we invested in our first CNC machine, which at the time was the largest of its kind in the country. The investment transformed our manufacturing capabilities, improving precision, consistency and efficiency.

By 2010, continued growth led us to our current home in Partridge Green. The move gave us the space to expand further, invest in advanced machinery and continue developing the skilled team that remains at the heart of everything we do.

A family business built around people.

Margrasil has always been about more than stone surfaces. It is about the people behind them.

Damien, Rickie’s son, first joined the company part-time in 2005 while completing his final year at university. After joining full-time in 2006, he became a Director in 2010 and continues to help guide the business today.

Rickie’s brother, Andrew, has been a valued part of the company for more than two decades, alongside Simon and several other long-serving members of the team. Many of our employees have spent ten years or more with us, bringing an exceptional level of knowledge, experience and pride to every project.

In 2017, the next generation joined the business when Chloe, became part of the Margrasil team, continuing the family involvement that has always been central to who we are and the traditions we remain committed to preserving for future generations.
